I would have never been able to afford coaching outside of the Civic Debate Academy. The debate space is often blocked by barriers of cost, things like tournament fees, flights, and coaching make debate less accessible for students who aren’t as advantaged as others, and this is only further worsened by disparities in-round, like access to prep and evidence. As a debater that has been restricted from reaching the full ceiling of this activity because of this, I am thankful to the National Debate Club for giving me higher access, their aid is substantial and NDC is always able to work with families in order to ensure that every debater can do what they seek to do within debate. It’s not just about financial aid, it’s about leveling the playing field for debaters everywhere.

How to Apply for Financial Aid?
Financial aid at CDA is designed to help students access our debate classes and travel team, regardless of financial background. On this page, students can easily apply for merit-based scholarships, which are available through the forms provided. These scholarships are awarded based on a student's achievements and contributions, making the application process straightforward and quick.
For need-based aid, families will need to complete CDA's financial aid application that includes submitting family and financial information, along with supporting documents. These applications are typically processed within 10 days. If approved, families will receive a registration code and a detailed letter via email outlining the terms of their aid, including the expiration date. This process ensures that financial barriers don’t prevent passionate students from participating in our programs.
What are the Eligibility Requirements for Financial Aid?
Eligibility for financial aid at CDA is determined based on household income and other unique circumstances. Generally, families with a household income under $200,000 may qualify for some level of financial aid for the travel team, while those earning under $150,000 are eligible for aid for debate classes. Need-based aid is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, taking into account not only income but also special statuses such as military or first responder service, as well as the number of members in the household. This holistic approach ensures that financial support is available to those who need it most, allowing every student the opportunity to participate fully in our programs.
