Civic Debate Academy (CDA) is a leader in providing high-quality, affordable debate education to students nationwide. We aim to create a supportive and engaging environment for students to develop critical thinking, public speaking, and argumentation skills. Role Overview: We are seeking a professional educator to join our team as an Online Debate Instructor. This position involves teaching debate classes to students in grades 6-12, focusing on Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, or Parliamentary debate formats. The ideal candidate is a licensed educator with a passion for helping students grow in confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills. Responsibilities: Teach engaging, interactive online debate classes using our curriculum. Adapt lesson plans to accommodate varying skill levels and ensure all students participate actively. Provide detailed feedback on student performance, both written and verbal. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. Maintain open communication with parents and CDA staff regarding student progress. Qualifications: Must hold at least one of the following valid licenses: Teaching License (any state, active or inactive). Substitute Teaching License. Teaching Assistant (TA) Certification. Educational Specialist Certification. Proven experience as an educator in a classroom or online setting. Knowledge of competitive debate formats, including Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, or Parliamentary debate. Strong organizational and communication skills. Availability to teach flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if needed. Preferred Qualifications: Competitive debate coaching experience at the middle or high school level. Overview: Do you have a passion for education and/or speech and debate? Then we would love to hear from you! We have a part-time opening to teach speech and debate classes to elementary and middle schoolers. Responsibilities: Review curriculum and job training before each class, demonstrating eagerness to ask questions and learn. Positively engage with students while maintaining effective classroom management. Arrive at in-person locations punctually, take attendance, and communicate effectively with parents. Requirements: Background checks and drug testing will be conducted as part of the hiring process. Prior teaching/tutoring experience is required. Prior experience in teaching at primary or secondary school levels is a plus. Illinois PEL is a huge plus. Must be at least 25 years of age or actively enrolled in a local accredited college or university. Speech and debate experience a plus but not required. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage young students. Must be able to commute to Arlington Heights. Qualifications: Trustworthy and dependable. Lead Debate Coaches at CDA are responsible for providing high-quality debate instruction to students, ensuring their development in both competitive and communication skills. The role includes weekly coaching sessions, judging practice rounds, and offering office hours for student support. Coaches work with a small cohort of four students throughout the TOC debate season (August - April) and are also expected to communicate on Slack and help students asynchronously. Additional responsibilities may include private coaching, judging additional practice rounds, and curriculum development. The Lead Coach will work closely with CDA’s directors and collaborate with students and parents to foster a positive learning environment. This role may include compensated travel to debate competitions, including regional and national tournaments. Compensation: - Monthly stipend starting at $500 plus additional hourly rates for tasks outside core responsibilities. - High bonuses based on successful student referrals
